Greer Harris

“I grew up in the Northern Suburbs of the Illawarra, in a small coastal town called Austinmer, and finished studying a Masters of Teaching, Primary Education, after graduating from a Visual Arts degree at the University of Wollongong.

In my work I am driven by my highly charged love of textiles and inspired by the collection of locally sourced natural materials. The silk, dye, and stitch are used as carriers of the natural and social context of my art. It ranges from large-scale, wall-hung textiles that consist of selections of abstract images on various different media including dying on silk, linen and cloth as well as embroidered figures. My fabric colours are created from the natural dyes of eucalyptus trees and other flora, and I also include rusty metals and collected objects, both man-made and natural.”
