Mat McCosker works across digital painting, drawing, sculpture, and computer-generated film-making. With a career spanning 20 years in the film visual effects industry, Mat is known for his work on feature films such as Harry Potter and Superman, amongst others. From this perspective of digital compositing and digital sculpture, he brings a unique visual language defined by poetic observations of the natural world.
Primarily a digital painter, his method involves digital sculpture to build broad shapes and forms as the basis for painted silhouettes and strikingly contrasting colours. Such studies evoke the personal and political ideas behind humanity's relationship with the Australian environment.
Mat has exhibited only once before, with 107 projects in Redfern.
He holds a Master of Arts (Digital Media) from the Australian Film Television and Radio School where he was subsequently Head of Animation.
Mat lives in Bulli with his partner, two boys and rambunctious Kelpie called Sammi.
