Virginia Settre is a practicing Visual Artist, Exhibition Curator and Creative Place-maker who has been based in the Illawarra for over twenty years. Her art practice began in 2010 after working in film and theatre as a Milliner and Costume Builder. Virginia has an Honours Degree in Fine Art and Visual Culture, and her practice includes painting, photography, and sculpture. Her artwork has been exhibited in Australia and Hong Kong and is held in private collections. The themes within Settre’s artworks revolve around cultural perceptions of ecological nature.
The photographs in this collection evoke a sense of memory, and occupy the space where landscape resides as cultural nostalgia. Settre suggests that we are looking through a ‘lens’ of our own interpretation as the work communicates with the subconscious and calls to mind an experience of landscape and place.
